Mazda6 i Grand Touring Review #DriveMazda

Every parent faces the same eternal struggle –How do I find a car that has enough room, but still looks fun and sporty?

Your answer? The Mazda6. Now, this family sedan won’t fit the entire soccer team, or the kids, the dog, and everyone’s suitcases, but on a weekend getaway with our family of five, we were impressed. Not only did the Mazda6 provide ample room and comfort, but it was sleek and stylish inside and out and handled the Colorado mountain passes effortlessly.

Upscale Luxury

The outside of the 2016 Mazda6 showcases clean lines and contours creating an impressively sporty, yet elegant body. Its exterior definitely stands out in a line of family sedans, but the interior is where the truly stunning design takes form. Luxury-grade textiles and quality details create an upscale cabin you’d expect from a much more expensive car. The Grand Touring model showcased contrasting leather interior, a 7-inch full-color touchscreen, the Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System, a navigation system with real time traffic, a moon roof, and heated front seats. It felt fancy without being overly extravagant.

Well-Designed Cabin & Cargo Space

It’s not that the cabin and cargo space of the 2016 Mazda6 is roomier than other family sedans, in fact, the cubic footage is average, but the design helped create an openness to the interior. The redesign of the center console has opened more room between the driver and front passenger seats. The rear seat comfortably fit the three kids allowing room for their car seats and foot space and the cargo room was extremely impressive.

While it may not look like much in this picture, we were able to fit the following into just the trunk space:

A 6-person tent

An overnight bag for 5

A day backpack

5 sleeping bags

2 blankets

A cooler

3 Large Canopy Camping Chairs

A body pillow & 3 regular pillows

And a few odds & ends

We were amazed! I felt much like a magician pulling item after item out of the trunk as we unpacked it all from a seemingly unending space.

Smooth Handling & Go

Whether the Mazda6 was gripping curves on a leisurely drive through beautiful scenery, or effortlessly climbing Colorado mountain passes, it delivered. The 2.5L SKYACTIV- G DOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine is smooth, powerful and responsive making it almost as fun to drive as the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It doesn’t matter if you’re taking a trip around the neighborhood, or going for a weekend getaway, the Mazda6 provides a fun, safe and reliable ride for you and your family.
