In 2016, we took a family weekend road trip in the Mazda6 and we were quite impressed.
The size, style and handling were all notably awesome. As we all know though, sometimes changes in a new model can either be a win or a fail, so it was time to see what Mazda’s 2018 Mazda6 had to offer.
Style
The 2018 model offers much of the same style we liked in the 2016 model: Clean lines, a classy interior and a sleek look. While there are times I love being chauffered around, the 2018 Mazda6 just begs for you to be the driver.
Mazda clearly crafts every detail with ease, comfort and operational ability of the driver in mind. Mazda boasts, ” Before we imagine the car, we imagine the driver,” and they back this claim up fully with the craftsmanship and attention to detail in the 2018 Mazda6.
Handling
Colorado weather delivered the perfect testing for this review as we went from sunny and high-60s to nearly blizzard conditions in a matter of a couple of days. The 2018 Mazda6 handled like a dream on the ice and snow packed roads.
New to the 2018 Grand Touring and higher trims is the turbocharged 2.5 liter, inline 4 cylinder. This is the same engine and one of the reasons we adored the CX-9. Another change we noticed to the 2018 model is how quiet it is! The drive is not only incredibly smooth, but the cabin is extremely quiet.
Favorite Features
The question we are always asked. Yes, safety, handling and the like are incredibly important when making your new car purchase, but the question I’m almost always asked is what did you really like about it? What were your favorite features? We tested the Signature trim and there were several features that stood out. The front and back seat warmers are incredible.
The steering wheel warmer was another reason this car begs to be driven. Instead of trying to drive with one hand, alternating warming up the other one, both hands were warm and safely positioned on the wheel. Another feature we really liked was the windshield display. It’s small enough to not be distracting and simple enough to get all the information you need with a quick glance.
Overall
The redesign and improvements made to the 2018 Mazda6 were definitely a win on an already pretty impressive car. For the price, features, gas mileage and other comparables the Mazda6 stands tall in the family-sedan category.
