Green Mountain Falls, Colorado

As a Colorado Springs native, I can’t count the number of times I have driven up or down Highway 24 between Colorado Springs and Woodland Park often wondering what lies in the valley below. From the highway, you can see the quaint town nestled into the mountainside under the towering pine trees. But, other than a passing mention of a tasty meal or a great hike, much of the town and its history is kept a secret between those that truly know how special of a gem it is. I had no idea it was home to such a picturesque, boutique hotel, perfect for a quick getaway–especially now while we are all looking for safer travel options closer to home.

The Outlook Lodge

The Outlook Lodge

The resort offers 11 guest rooms between the Main House, the Cottage House and the Little Beaver Inn next door. We were hosted in the 3-bedroom Family Suite located in the private upstairs living quarters of the Main House.

Bunk Beds in The Outlook Lodge Family Suite

The spacious sweet offers two connecting bedrooms with bunkbeds on one side, and a single bedroom with a queen bed across from a living area. These aren’t just any bunkbeds–they offer a mounted flat-screen TV, small cubbies and a light on both the top and bottom bunk. The kids were in bunk bed heaven!

The suite also includes a sitting room with a table and chairs for dining or playing games, two bathrooms and a beautiful sunroom. There was also a private coffee bar and mini-fridge.

The lodge has a community kitchen free for guests to use to make a meal. While we didn’t use it to cook, we did borrow utensils to enjoy the meals we ordered in from the nearby restaurants. For dinner we picked up pizza and salad from The Blue Moose Tavern and for breakfast, we picked up giant pancakes, and other classic favorites from The Pantry. Both are within walking distance.

In the evening, we enjoyed making s’mores and reminiscing about the fun moments from our day at the giant propane firepit. There’s also a hot tub to enjoy and relax in after exploring one of the nearby hiking trails.

Activities & Fun

We were eager to get out and explore the area and see the falls lending their name to this adorable town. We started out climbing up in elevation on the Crystal Falls Trail and then switched to the Kirkpatrick Trail where the two intersect and headed back into town. It was a relatively easy hike and offered beautiful views! The waterfalls were incredible!

Woodland Park and Colorado Springs are only a short drive, so there are lots of other activities nearby as well. Although, we enjoyed spending time at the resort enjoying the front porch and playing board games.

Overall

The Outlook Lodge is adorable. While the resort rooms offer gorgeous accommodations for a weekend getaway, girls trip or couples escape, the family suite lends itself to a perfect family adventure–especially for a larger family. It’s close enough you can get there and still have time to unwind and truly enjoy your stay and it’s great for getting out of the house, but remaining socially distant.
