Spring Break vacations are wonderful. Find the right place and the whole family can enjoy a little escape together with no, “I’m bored,” from the kids and even peace and relaxation for the parents. This year we were given the opportunity to stay at the lovely Cheyenne Mountain Resort in order to check it out and in exchange for our stay, share about why it made an incredible location for our family adventure. I was blown away by how they cater to families and really think you should consider it for your next getaway.
First, the location of the Cheyenne Mountain Resort is amazing. Nestled right up to the mountains, the views from all over the resort are breathtaking. I live here. I see these mountains everyday, but I forget just how massive and beautiful they are until I’m mere feet away from them. We sat down for the “Zoo Breakfast” (more on this in a moment) the first morning and wow! I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the view from our table. Whether dining inside, enjoying coffee on your patio, or swimming in the outdoor pool, the beauty of Colorado surrounds you and is truly unbelievable.
Although the Cheyenne Mountain Resort is perfectly placed, looking at the mountains is peaceful, but not enough to keep my active kiddos happy during a visit. The team at Cheyenne Mountain Resort has made sure that spring and summer vacations have plenty of activities to not only keep the kids entertained, but to also keep the family together. One of our favorite experiences was the before mentioned “Zoo Breakfast.” It sounded a bit peculiar, maybe even unappetizing, but I assure you that’s not the case. There is a delicious breakfast buffet offered in the dining room complete with incredible views, and then before, during, or after your meal, there are animal friends from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on display in the nearby lobby to interact with. My little ones LOVED this! We could take breaks in between trips to the buffet to check out the animals and get up to stretch their squirmy legs. The zoo had animals ranging from snakes and lizards, to tortoises, and even a skunk named Fred!
It was so fun! The resort has an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, but with your stay you are also given full access to The Country Club of Colorado. The enormous facility boasts a manicured golf course, an aquatic center, 17 tennis courts, a fitness center, juice bar and a spa. They also have a lake with water activities open from Memorial Day-Labor Day. We are already planning a return stay this summer to take advantage of all the outdoor fun, but we were able to enjoy indoor pool games for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Relay races, pool scrabble and other games were great for the whole family.
Once you’re tired from swimming and splashing around, there are movies offered back in the lodge with free popcorn and lemonade. Usually an earlier family-friendly option and a later evening teen appropriate choice.
Before dinner there is a complimentary craft brewery tasting (and root beer tasting) offered in the lounge and after you’ve enjoyed dinner save some room for “Gourmet S’mores on the Terrace.” You can purchase a s’mores kit and add delicious toppings such as banana chips, caramel, peanut butter, bacon and more!
As you can see, the Cheyenne Mountain Resort has planned their spring and summer activities with families in mind. The setting is stunning, the activities are fun for the whole family and even the accommodations cater to families. We stayed in a suite and had plenty of room for the five of us, plus two bathrooms. (Always a perk!) The connecting rooms offered a king bed and pull-out sofa in one room and more of a “living room” set-up in the other room. There was a chair, love seat and couch all placed around a round coffee table –perfect for eating at or even playing cards or family board games. At night, the couch pulled out to another bed, ideal for the big kids. Also, the resort is dog friendly!
While the Cheyenne Mountain Resort has plenty to keep your family entertained and engaged, there are so many other experiences available only minutes from the resort in beautiful Colorado Springs. If your family loves the “Zoo Breakfast” as much as mine did, you’ll definitely want to check out the nearby Cheyenne Mountain Zoo –the only mountain zoo in the country. The Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau is also full of resources and information to help make the most of your stay. I hope you’ll check out the Cheyenne Mountain Resort for your next vacation or stay-cation. It’s warm, inviting, beautiful, fun and a great place to spend some quality family time.
