Mommy Monday was moved to Thursday due to one of those unexpected life moments we all have to deal with from time to time. The great part is I was able to spend it with my beautiful mom! It was wonderful to enjoy some quality time with a woman who can truly relate with the idea behind Mommy Monday. Of course I think my mom is the best, but as a mom, I can now truly appreciate the courage she had to become a step-mom to four additional kids over 15 years ago. As a step-mom myself, I understand there are some slightly different responsibilities with the role, but there are also different struggles and challenges associated with being the “bonus” parent.
Thanks to a couple of gift cards from fabulous family members, we spent a lovely afternoon at the Columbine Day Spa. This may be hard to believe, but I have never been to a spa or had any spa treatments other than the occasional pedicure. We each had a 60-minute massage followed by a facial treatment for me and a deluxe pedicure for my mom. Although the location feels a bit more like the lobby of a dental office, once you step inside their glass doors, you succumb to the relaxing spa atmosphere. We were greeted immediately and offered beverages while we filled out the necessary paperwork. Once we were all checked in, we were whisked away to change into a soft robe, store our belongings safely in a locker, and head to our massages. The massage was wonderful. (Duh, right?) The masseuse was extremely friendly and professional and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. After my blissful hour was up, I headed to my facial. Again, amazing! The technician was also extremely friendly and focused on my comfort and understanding the entire time. She told me each step along with what product she was using. I love that they use organic and all natural products that smell heavenly. She insisted the pineapple and mango face mask wouldn’t taste as good as it smelled, but it sure made my mouth water. After she was finished, she suggested some tips on how to ensure I was properly taking care of my skin. My face was positively glowing and a close equivalent in softness to my daughter’s baby soft skin. I found my mom, who was delightfully finishing up her pedicure and we enjoyed a glass of wine together. We ended our day with a wonderful surprise to me and the object that started Mommy Monday — new running shoes! (Thank you, Mom!)
Our mother – daughter spa day was incredible. Thanks to a very generous and thoughtful gift card, (Thank you, Hillary) I was able to enjoy a very rejuvenating experience. While the Columbine Day Spa did seem very reasonably priced, until the next time I find myself fortunate enough to enjoy a day there, I plan on recreating a bit of the relaxation at home. Whether it is a new nail polish color, a bubble bath, or perhaps even a do-it-yourself facial, there are plenty of ways to pamper yourself on a budget. Have fun and remember, you deserve it!
