Lucky Penny Mickey Mouse - #StPatricksDay Craft

Lucky Penny Mickey Necklace – St. Patrick’s Day Disney Craft

March 4, 2016 By //  by Lauren Leave a Comment

Disney and crafts are two of my favorite things so I try to combine them quite often. Not only is it fun, but it’s one of my Top 10 Ways To Ease The Disney Vacation Blues. We’ve all been there and even if you aren’t missing Disney at the moment, (I don’t know that feeling!) this fun Disney St. Patrick’s Day craft combines Mickey magic with the luck of the Irish and who couldn’t use a little extra Pixie Dust here and there? Better yet, not only is it a delightful leprechaun green, but it’s also green for the environment reusing the caps to soda pop bottles. My kiddos had a great time helping out with these and it is now the fashion accessory to my 3-year-old’s daily outfits.

You will need:

Soda Pop Caps – Green ones are best, but any color will work

Ribbon – 1/4 to 1/2 inch works best

Green Felt

Green Pom-poms

Craft Glue or Hot Glue (hot glue worked best)

Scissors

Pennies

First, rinse and dry the caps to make sure they are clean and free from any stickiness. Then, trace around the cap on the green felt and carefully cut it out.

Next, glue the felt circle to the top of the pop cap. If you have a green cap you can tie the ribbon directly around it. For a gray or other color cap, I first glued a wider ribbon around the edges to hide some of the gray color.

Tightly wrap the ribbon around the cap and tie it with a double knot. You’ll want to measure and leave enough on the ends to tie and slip the necklace over the head. Next, glue the pop-poms to the top of the cap for “ears.” You can use craft glue for this, but hot glue held better and made them not so delicate for my rambunctious #DisneyKids.

The last step is a fun one! Give your little one the penny have them hold it tight in their hand, close their eyes and make a wish. You can then glue it to the inside or the outside of the pop cap. The first one we made, we glued it to the outside, but for the next one, we found it fit perfectly inside and was almost like a hidden treasure or a bit of secret Disney magic. Either way is darling! I hope you enjoy your Lucky Penny Mickey Necklace and that it brings you lots of luck and Pixie Dust!
