Moscato Colada - Walt Disney World

Disney Drink Of The Day: Moscato Colada

Moscato Colada - Walt Disney World

Moscato Colada–say that five times fast! This Disney Drink Of The Day is one of the most popular cocktails on the Standard Pool Bar Menu. I hear lots of great reviews and always get recommendations to try it. It is good, not my favorite, but tasty and one I have ordered a few times. I love the drink more because of the story I have to go with it than for the taste. (I know that was a really bad “sell,” but seriously, I think you should try at least everything once and decide for yourself. I’m not going to absolutely love every cocktail.)

Stormalong BaySo, perhaps you’re wondering about the story that goes with it. Disney Cast Members are some of my favorite people. Sure, you may meet a few that are less than magical, but the majority of them are so courteous and seem genuinely happy and excited in their job. No matter the requests or questions they are asked, they remain “on stage” and “in character” at all times–and I’m not just talking about the actual characters. It was around 9:15 one night and we were strolling back from Epcot to our stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. We decided to stop at Stormalong Bay to let the kids splash on the waters edge for a few minutes and to enjoy a beverage from Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill.

It was still fairly busy and there was only one bartender on duty, so he was moving pretty quickly. When it was my turn, I ordered the Moscato Colada and for one brief second, he broke character. For just a moment he let his poker face go and you could see a glimmer of frustration with my drink choice in his reaction. I immediately called attention to it feeling terrible (I am a server after all) and offered to change my choice. Embarrassed, he apologized sincerely and said he was happy to make it, it’s just one of the more complicated ones and was so sorry for showing any disdain. He repetitively apologized the rest of our interaction as I explained there was no apology needed, I completely understood–especially being in food service myself.  I loved this experience. Not because I can point to a crack in the perfect Disney bubble, but rather the opposite. This isn’t a crack or a flaw, this is what makes Disney perfect. The Cast Members aren’t animatronics, but rather real people. People with feelings, people who choose to make the experience magical for others everyday. This guy, who shares smiles and stories with others all day, was tired after a long shift and needed a smile himself. As I paid him for the drinks, we shared a laugh over the whole situation and parted with a smile on each of our faces.

Now, back to the Disney Drink Of The Day. The Moscato Colada is a frozen combination of: Skyy Infusions Moscato Grape Vodka and Blue Curacao blended with Pina Colada Mix and topped with a Mango-Passion Fruit Foam. It is a great combination and the next time you order one, try to bring a little cheer to your bartender.

Cheers!
