I’m organized, hardly late and like having a plan, but I’m not going to lie, I’m a Christmas Procrastinator. I have big dreams of having all the shopping done and presents wrapped early, but it never seems to play out that way. It seems that even with conveniences like Amazon Prime, and thank goodness for Amazon Prime, I’m still battling crowds and bad weather to shop on the final days before Christmas. Then, I saw a post on Facebook that said, “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer.” I was instantly reminded of our family trips with my grandparents when I was little and how those are the memories that stick with me. I might be able to tell you about a favorite present or two I received for Christmas, but I can go into detail about our family adventures. I love Christmas and snuggling around the tree Christmas morning, but the reality is it’s who is around the tree that is more important than what is underneath.
One of our favorite adventure locations was Lake Powell. I have many happy memories staying at the lodge, houseboating and spending time with family in such a gorgeous and peaceful place. Whether you are a seasoned houseboater or a first-timer, they provide everything to make sure you have an wonderful vacation. If you’re nervous about being on the water, the Lake Powell Resort is gorgeous and gives you breathtaking views while still being “grounded.” Nearby activities include walking tours, boat tours, golfing, hiking, rafting, watercraft rentals, tubing, water-skiing and more.
It’s a beautiful drive from Colorado and the winter months add an extra touch of intimacy and relaxation, providing a perfect escape for the family. Also, you can save on resort lodging by booking advance and save up to 50% on houseboat rentals from now through early summer.
So perhaps instead of gathering around the Christmas tree with loved ones to open presents, you can give the gift of adventure and a chance to continue the holiday spirit of togetherness with a family vacation. With the great specials they are offering, it looks like 2017 will be the year I get to share this treasure from my childhood with my family.
I was not compensated for this post, just dreaming and sharing about one of my favorite places. All opinions are my own. Lake photos are courtesy Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas.
