2017 Goals: Above

January 3, 2017 By //  by Lauren 1 Comment

I started out 2016 by setting a few goals for myself and Motherhood & Beyond. Mostly I wanted to learn as much as I could about the world of blogging and continue to push myself to grow both as a blogger and as a “brand.” I had a great year. I made new partnerships and connections. I was invited to attend the incredible Disney Social Media Moms Celebration for a second year.  A redesigned site and logo, made me feel fresh and energized to write and increased numbers gave way to countless opportunities. While I really do have a passion for writing and pick and choose only those topics which I can honestly write about, what I missed this year was just writing about my passions. Something I plan to return to in 2017.

I worked really hard in 2016 and it definitely started to pay off, although I don’t think I’ll ever be at the level I want to be. I still have so much to learn and while my goal is to continue the growth and learning I made a priority last year, I also want to focus on reverting back to what made me want to begin blogging in 2013 and that’s just writing about and sharing what I love. For me it’s family, travel, Disney, fun and food with an occasional cocktail or two. I love working with my favorite brands and sharing about their latest products or causes, but it’s incredibly important to balance that information with my own passions. I want to be successful, but true success is more than just numbers–it’s also being happy in what we do.

For 2017 I decided to do something I haven’t done before and that is, along with making my goals or resolutions, I picked a word for the year. It took awhile to come up with something I felt could encompass the entire year both personally and professionally, but I chose: ABOVE. I want to always go above what others expect of me. In every interaction, I want to bring others up above where they were before. I want to help others rise above their goals. I want to be there for my family & friends and give them attention above what I have previously. When others go low, I want to rise above and keep my head up high. I’m excited to see how incorporating this word into my life will play out this year!

Happy New Year, friends! Since I’m new at this, I’d love to hear if you pick a word for the year and what your experiences are. Please share in the comments below.
